Every 09 call has two parts to its price. Most sites only mention one. Here are both.
The service charge: 65p a minute
This is the part that goes to the service, and it's the same for every line on this site: 65p per minute. It's printed next to every number and read out at the start of every call.
The access charge: set by your phone company
On top of the service charge, your own phone company adds an access charge for connecting you. It's a per-minute amount that varies between providers and tariffs. Look for "access charge" on your provider's price list, or check your last bill.
So the total per minute is 65p plus your access charge. That's why every number on this site says exactly that.
How it's billed
The cost goes on the bill of the phone you call from, or comes off your credit if you're pay as you go. It shows as a premium rate call.
Paying by card instead
If you'd rather not have it on your phone bill, buy talk time by card. You pay up front, get a standard number and a PIN, and the minutes come off your balance. It's also the only way to call from outside the UK.
Card talk time is 50p a minute: £10 buys 20 minutes, up to £30 for 65 minutes (5 free). Charged to your card, not your phone bill. 18+ only.
Keeping control of what you spend
- Decide how long you want before you dial, and watch the clock.
- Dial a specific line directly to skip the main menu.
- Card talk time caps your spend at what you've bought.
- To stop 09 calls from a phone entirely, ask your network for a premium rate bar. Most do it free.
