Nearly everyone is nervous the first time. It passes quickly. Here's how to make the first call a good one.
Pick somewhere private
You'll relax more if you're not worried about being overheard. Headphones help, and they make her voice sound better too.
Listen to a few intros
Don't take the first voice you hear just because it's first. Listen to a few intros and pick someone whose voice you actually like. It makes a big difference.
You don't need a script
"Hi, it's my first time" is a perfectly good opening line. She'll take it from there. The women on these lines talk to first-timers every day and they're very good at it.
Say what you want, and what you don't
If there's something you'd like to talk about, say so early. If there's something you don't want, say that too. Nobody is offended by a caller who knows what they like.
Use a different name if you want
You don't have to give your real name or any personal details. Plenty of callers use a made-up name, and that's fine.
Keep an eye on the time
Calls are charged by the minute. Decide roughly how long you want before you dial, or buy a fixed amount of card talk time so you can't overspend.
Don't like it? Hang up
If the call isn't for you, you can end it whenever you like. You can also call back and choose someone else.
